Lewisham Cyclists Mend and Ride Project

  • by

Lewisham Cyclists have recently set up a cycle maintenance project.  It is a workshop space with a good selection of tools, and advice and help available from our volunteers plus a qualified bike mechanic.

It is not a bike repair shop, it is a space where you will be helped to mend your own bike, getting it back on the road while learning the skills to keep it there.

You will be shown how to check your bike and then how to do any necessary repair yourself. While you’re waiting for your turn, you can observe what others are doing and sample a piece of our cake. We supply the tools and some basic spare parts (brake pads, cables, inner tubes, repair kits) which you can buy at cost price. If your bike needs a part we haven’t got, then you can bring it with you to the next workshop and we can help you fit it then.

We plan to focus on easily do-able repairs, like cables, tyres/inner tubes, tuning gears etc, as these are the type of things that people will be able to do for themselves in the future. If your bike requires a complex, time-consuming repair we can still help, but may not be able to do it on the day you turn up, unless you already have the necessary parts and turn up very early.  We will always be able to advise you on how to get it done.  If you are not sure whether your bike needs a straightforward repair, or something more complex, you can ring us or email first.

There are three sessions a month.  Usually these will be held on:

Third Friday and the last Sunday of the month from 12.30 on the Friday and 11.30 on the Sunday to 3pm both days, held at the Ringway Centre, 268, Baring Rd Grove Park SE12 0DA

2nd Wednesday of the month, held at the Young Lewisham Project, Kilmorie Rd, SE23 2SR from 6.30pm to 9pm

Dates until end of May at Ringway, Grove Park

20th March, 29th March, 17th April 19th April, 22nd May, 31st May

Dates at the Young Lewisham Project

March 11th, April 8th, May 13th

There is no set charge, but we do ask for a donation from those in work, for the help and use of tools, plus we have to charge cost price for any new parts supplied.

Coffee, tea and cake available too!

If you would like to bring yourself and your bike along, give us a ring on 07826559603._DSF9699(2)
